Abdullah Avcı: “The title race is still on.”

Beşiktaş manager Abdullah Avcı spoke to the press after yesterday’s 2-0 defeat to Yeni Malatyaspor.

Avcı highlighted that the team couldn’t even create any chances and said: “We can make mistakes sometimes, or we score and win. We need to congratulate Yeni Malatyaspor at this point. We knew they were going to defend. They have some big and bulky players. We didn’t allow them much space, we neither get a goal. We couldn’t benefit from dead ball situations. In a game like this, you should be well organised and play a high press game. I don’t want to go into detail, but I believe we should’ve had a penalty before we conceded the first goal. We didn’t have motivation issues, we just weren’t productive. We are still in the title race, the opponent has got to be congratulated.”

“We are working on adding depth to the squad.”

Avcı also addressed the transfer rumours, saying: “We’ll abide by the regulations and act accordingly in the transfer window. We want to have the best players we can get; someone who can score or create in a confined space would be nice.”
